About mehendi invitations

The mehendi is traditionally hosted by the bride’s family a day or two before the wedding, and it is the least formal function of the week. The invitation can be playful in a way the wedding card cannot: a shorter host line, a creative title such as "Jashn-e-Mehandi", and colour that signals the afternoon rather than the ceremony.

Because guests often attend the mehendi and the sangeet on consecutive days, the invitation usually carries the start time and a "followed by" line rather than an end time. Where mehendi artists are booked for guests as well as the bride, saying so on the invitation meaningfully changes who turns up.

Dress codes matter here more than at most functions — minty green, yellow, whatever the family has chosen — and they belong on the card.

What to put on the invitation

Who is hosting
Usually the bride’s family; the host line should say so.
Start time
"4:00 PM onwards" reads better than a fixed window for a function that runs long.
Dress code
Greens and yellows are conventional. Name the colour if there is one.
A creative title
Jashn-e-Mehandi, Rangi Saari, Henna & Dholak — optional, and it sets the tone.

In your language

The headings are set in the language, not transliterated — so the film reads as a card rather than as an English layout with translated text dropped in.

Mehendi invitation questions

Who hosts the mehendi ceremony?
Traditionally the bride’s family, at home or at a venue close to it, a day or two before the wedding. In many families it has merged with the sangeet into a single evening hosted jointly.
How far ahead should the mehendi invitation go out?
It usually travels with the main wedding invitation, three to five weeks ahead, since the guest list overlaps. A separate mehendi-only invitation goes to the smaller circle actually attending.
Can I combine mehendi and sangeet on one invitation?
Yes — pick a multi-event design and add both as separate cards with their own dates and venues. Guests then have both functions in one forward.
