About retirement invitations

A retirement invitation is usually sent by colleagues or by children, and it carries something a party invitation does not: a career. The designs here are built around a photographic journey — early years, the middle, now — because that is the material families and offices actually have and want to show.

Two things belong on the card that people routinely leave off. The first is the span: the years of service, or the organisation and the role, stated plainly. The second is the tone of the evening — whether there will be speeches, and therefore whether guests should be prepared to say something.

Where the evening is a surprise, the invitation needs to say so unmistakably, and it is worth sending it only to the list that can keep it.

What to put on the invitation

The years
"35 years of service" or the dates themselves — the headline.
Organisation and role
Colleagues reading the card want to place the person.
Photographs
A journey across the years works better than one recent portrait.
Speeches
Say whether there will be any, so people can prepare.

In your language

The headings are set in the language, not transliterated — so the film reads as a card rather than as an English layout with translated text dropped in.

Retirement invitation questions

Who usually sends a retirement invitation?
Either the colleagues organising the farewell or the family hosting a dinner at home. Both are common, and the host line on the card should make clear which it is.
Can I include photographs from across their career?
Yes — several retirement designs are built as a photographic journey with three or four framed photographs, which suits a long career better than a single portrait.
Is there a design for a surprise party?
Any of the designs can carry the wording. The important thing is a clear line — "this is a surprise, please do not mention it" — near the top, where it will be read before the date.
