Haldi invitation wording

A morning ritual with a small guest list — and clothes nobody minds ruining.

The haldi is a ritual with participants rather than an audience, so its invitation goes to a smaller circle than the wedding card and should say plainly what is being asked of people.

Two lines matter more here than anywhere else: the time, because the ritual is usually tied to a morning muhurat, and the clothes, because turmeric does not wash out.

Getting it right

  • Be exact about the time — haldi follows a morning muhurat and late arrivals miss it.
  • Tell people what to wear. "Old yellows" is a real instruction, not a joke.
  • Say whose haldi it is — bride’s side, groom’s side or joint.
  • Keep the list small. This is a ritual, not a reception.

Questions

What do you write on a haldi invitation?
Whose haldi it is, the date and exact time, the venue, and what guests should wear. A line about breakfast or lunch if food is being served.
Who is invited to the haldi ceremony?
Close family and a small circle of friends — people who will take part in the ritual rather than watch it.
What time is haldi usually held?
In the morning, most often between 9 and 11 AM, and frequently at a time set by the family priest.
