Pooja invitation wording

Short, plain and sent the same week — the wording does not need to be elaborate.

Pooja invitations are the least ceremonial writing on this site and the most frequently sent. Which puja, what time it starts, where, and whether prasad or a meal follows: that is the whole card.

Because these go out days ahead in a family or neighbourhood group, brevity is a feature. A long invitation for a two-hour katha reads as overdone.

Getting it right

  • Name the puja exactly. "Puja at our place" leaves people guessing what to expect.
  • Kathas and paths start at a fixed time — guests should be seated by it.
  • Include the flat number. These are almost always at home.
  • Say whether prasad or a full meal follows.

Questions

How do you write a Satyanarayan puja invitation?
Name the katha, give the date and start time, the full home address, and whether prasad follows. Four lines is enough. A Hindi sample is above.
How much notice does a pooja invitation need?
Three to seven days. These are household observances and the invitation usually goes out the same week.
Can I use the same wording for a Sukhmani Sahib path?
The structure is identical — name the path, the date, the start time, the address and whether langar follows. Only the name of the observance changes.

Once the wording is settled
