About birthday invitations
Birthday invitations have a shorter half-life than wedding cards: they go out a fortnight ahead, they are read on a phone, and they are acted on immediately or not at all. That makes a film a good fit — it gets opened in a group chat where a PDF would not.
For children’s parties the details that determine whether the day works are logistical: the exact start and end time, whether parents are expected to stay, and what to do about presents. First birthdays and the shashtipoorthi at sixty carry more ceremony and usually include a puja before the party.
The designs run from cut-out cartoons and balloons for children to restrained typographic cards for adults who would rather not have balloons.
What to put on the invitation
- Whose birthday, and which one
- The age is the headline for a first, a sixteenth or a sixtieth.
- Start and end time
- Children’s parties need both; parents plan around the end time.
- The address
- Full enough to navigate to, including the flat or house number.
- RSVP contact
- One number for headcount — caterers need it more than you do.
In your language
The headings are set in the language, not transliterated — so the film reads as a card rather than as an English layout with translated text dropped in.
Birthday invitation questions
- How far ahead should a birthday invitation go out?
- Two to three weeks for a party with a guest list, and a week is enough for a small gathering. For a first birthday with relatives travelling, give a month.
- Can I put my child’s photograph on the invitation?
- Yes — most birthday designs take one or two photographs, and several build the opening card around one. You will see it in the free preview before you pay.
- Is there a design for a 60th or 75th birthday?
- Yes. Alongside the children’s designs there are restrained typographic and illustrated cards suited to milestone birthdays and shashtipoorthi celebrations, which often include a puja before the dinner.
