Save the date wording
Short lines that get a date into the calendar without committing to details you have not fixed.
A save-the-date is not a small invitation — it is a different document with a single job. It should be readable in one glance, unambiguous about the date, and deliberately silent on everything still in flux.
The temptation is to add the venue and the programme. Resist it. A save-the-date that has to be corrected is worse than one that said less.

Getting it right
- Give the city, not the venue — venues change, cities rarely do.
- Say that an invitation will follow, so nobody treats this as the whole thing.
- If only the month is settled, write the month. A wrong date is worse than a vague one.
- Introduce the hashtag here if you are using one.
Questions
- When should you send a save the date?
- Four to eight months before the wedding, and earlier if guests are travelling internationally or it is a destination wedding. The formal invitation follows four to six weeks ahead.
- Does a save the date need the venue?
- No. The city is enough, and leaving the venue off means you will not have to send a correction if the booking changes.
- Is a save the date necessary if we are sending an invitation?
- It is not required, but it is useful whenever guests need to book leave or travel. For a local guest list a single invitation is fine.
